Today, the kids and I checked on the progress of our gardens at the community gardens in our town. And we saw the miracle of new growth, new birth against so many odds. We planted some butternut squash seeds from a real butternut squash, and although it took about a week, today, we found the growth!!! I can not tell you how excited I was! These tiny, fragile new green baby plants pushed back some pretty hard dirt and sprouted. In fact, we planted way more than needed, thinking they wouldn’t all make it, however, it seems they all have.
(We even had to take some out, as we just had too many).
It got me thinking how doing such a small gesture of planting a seed can create such bounty. All we did was plant them, water them, and voila. The rest is up to God. I did also speak love over them, haha! Yes, I know it sounds cooky. However, I believe our words are POWERFUL and affect not only people but the earth God created as well… if you think about it, God SPOKE the world into being. I think the earth is still affected by sound. And also too, because we are created in God’s image. And God told mankind to have dominion over and subdue the earth. To be a good steward. And so I spoke to those seeds, and I thanked God for them. And to be seeing all of these seeds break through now was to be honest, a little overwhelming. It made me think how God asks us to plant the seed and then… He multiplies it!
I believe God is calling many of us to step out and plant some seeds… He asks us to trust Him, even if all we do is plant a whole lot of humble butternut squash, He blesses us. And He is blessing the child-like faith to do what He is nudging us to do.
So go out and plant those seeds! Plant those dreams! Those ideas you’ve had that excite you and maybe even terrify you. I am here, cheering you on.
